Animal-Assisted Therapy

Animal-Assisted Therapy at Beacon of Hope

At Beacon of Hope Counseling, we believe in the power of connection—both human and animal. Our therapy team includes a certified therapy dog, Tucker, and three bunnies currently in training to become certified therapy rabbits. Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to provide numerous benefits for individuals of all ages, and we’re excited to share how our furry friends can enhance the therapeutic experience.

Benefits of Animal-Assisted Therapy

  1.  Emotional Support: Interacting with animals can elicit feelings of comfort and safety, helping reduce anxiety and stress levels.

  2.  Improved Social Skills: Animals can facilitate social interactions and foster communication, making it easier for clients to express themselves.

  3. Enhanced Motivation: The presence of therapy animals can motivate clients to engage in therapy sessions, particularly children who may be more resistant to traditional methods.

  4. Increased Focus and Attention: Animals can help enhance concentration and focus during therapy sessions, creating a more productive environment

  5. Physical Benefits: Interaction with animals can lead to lowered blood pressure, reduced heart rate, and a boost in overall well-being.

Statistics

Research indicates that over 70% of participants in AAT programs report improvements in mood and social interaction.

  • Healing Time: Many individuals experience therapeutic benefits within a few sessions, though long-term improvements are typically seen with continued engagement.
